My Boston Marathon Playlist

I spent a lot of time crafting the most perfect Boston Marathon playlist.  At least I hope it would’ve been perfect.  But I never got to utilize it.  Angela and I decided to forgo using our iPods during the race due to the rain.  I have run plenty of times without music, including during half marathon races, but have never run a full marathon without music.

The official title of my Boston playlist is “BOSTON. GET IT.” and I made it to be 3 hours and 38 minutes long.  The best songs were repeated a few times, so I’ll skip over any repeats so you just get the gist of it:

bmplaylist

Ready to Run – Dixie Chicks

Teenage Dream – Katy Perry

Bad Romance – Lady Gaga

Homegrown – Zac Brown Band (the only country song on this playlist…besides Ready to Run, I guess)

The Bad Touch – Bloodhound Gang

Shake It – Metro Station

The Anthem – Good Charlotte

Just A Dream – Nelly

Down – Jay Sean

Up, Up and Away – Kid Cudi

Let It Go – Idina Menzel

Cotton Eyed Joe – Rednex

All Night Longer – Sammy Adams

The Middle – Jimmy Eat World

The New Workout Plan – Kanye

Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars

Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

#SELFIE – The Chainsmokers

Heart of a Champion – Nelly

Centuries – Fall Out Boy

Trouble – Neon Jungle

Sweetness – Jimmy Eat World

Dark Horse – Katy Perry

My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark – Fall Out Boy

Jai Ho! – The Pussycat Dolls

Straight Through My Heart – Backstreet Boys

Ghost – Ella Henderson

Firework – Katy Perry

Thnks fr th Mmrs – Fall Out Boy

Finally Found You – Enrique Iglesias

My Own Worst Enemy – Lit

Give Me Everything – Pitbull

Dirty Little Secret – The All-American Rejects

Face Down – The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Almost – Bowling For Soup

Geronimo – Sheppard

Brave – Sara Bareilles

E.T. – Katy Perry

Hey Porsche – Nelly

Just The Girl – The Click Five

Love Me Like You Do – Ellie Goulding

Fight Night – Migos

One Thing – One Direction

Tie Me Down – New Boyz

Imma Shine – Youngbloodz

Club Can’t Handle Me Right Now – Flo Rida

Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon

So obviously I was really into the 90s/early 2000s boy band alternative music.  The playlist as a whole is quite the variety with Let It Go to Fight Night (which is extremely explicit and I don’t recommend listening to if you are in the workplace or around children.)  Katy Perry (of course) and Nelly each made a few appearances.

I have since revamped my running playlist with some great summer jams and will have that posted for you soon too!  I’ve found that changing it up frequently really helps with making the runs go by quickly.

Do you make running playlists exactly the length that you expect to be running?

“Just a Dream” by Nelly is such a jam that I completely forgot about. Listening to it now.

  2. NICE! I need to post a playlist every once in a while. Some of mine are very similar to yours.:)

  3. Were you glad in a way that you didn’t wear headphones so you could more fully experience the crowds cheering and shouting encouragement and talk with other runners?
