The 1st Run (and Day) of 2016

Happy New Year!

I’m still in St. Louis, but since one of my biggest resolutions for 2016 is to revive this blog, I wanted to check in with the happenings on the first day of the year.  And the last day of 2015…so let’s start with that.

I left Chicago shortly before 8am and had a nice little drive down to St. Louis listening to music and then an audiobook – Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter.  I had actually thought the book was almost done, but then a few more crazy plot twists were thrown in.  That’s another resolution for 2016- read more books/listen to more audiobooks.

Angela and I went to lunch at a glorious little cheap Mexican restaurant called Nacho Mama’s.  I don’t think there’s any better food than a quesadilla.  Then we just lounged and chatted about life for awhile until it was time to get moving and cook some appetizers.  The best dishes were the spinach & artichoke dip made in the crock pot and buffalo turkey sliders.  We originally started listening to a Best of 2015 playlist, but after a few songs, it seemed like there really weren’t many great songs this year?! Shut Up and Dance was probably the #1 and obviously Hello.  So we changed to the 2006-2010 Jamz playlist I had made for our 5 year UD Reunion Weekend last June.

And before we knew it, everyone was over for the party!

After a lot of chatting, a few drinking games, and a round of champagne, we headed out to the bar.  We reserved a table at a bar/restaurant, but luckily the place didn’t have an advertised New Years Eve party or anything crazy.  There were a few other patrons there, but it basically seemed like our party had the place to ourselves.

The selfie stick was present for the evening.

After the bar, we came back to Angela’s and proceeded to have a dance party, heat up more food, and just sit and chat for awhile…the chatting mostly turned into ranting about dating apps.

We didn’t hit the hay until after 3am, so the 1st day of 2016 had a slow start.  Basically just lounging on the couches and re-telling stories from the night until it was time to just fall asleep again for a nap.

Finally, at 4pm Angela and I went for a run.  First run of 2016 is in the books!  And by books, I mean in the online running log.  We did 4.3 miles at an 8:03 average pace.  It was much chillier than we expected but the fresh air felt good after being inside all day.  In case your interested in the details, splits were: 8:05, 8:13, 8:10, 7:42 and then 2:21 for the last .3 miles.  The route was mostly some rolling hills, but nothing too mountainous.

We got ready and met Liz for dinner at Crushed Red, where we had excellent salads and flat bread.  The most important thing to come out of our dinner is that we are definitely going to try to get into the Hood to Coast relay in 2017.

Then the 3 of us met up with Amy to see Sisters.  It was very funny and had me cracking up at parts, but I wasn’t overly impressed or anything.  Seemed like more of a trying-too-hard to be funny movie.  But I was glad we saw it.

How was your New Years Eve? Did you get a run in on the 1st day of 2016?

Anybody see Sisters yet?  What did you think?

Best song of 2015?

2 Thoughts on “The 1st Run (and Day) of 2016

  1. My New Year’s Eve was relatively low key and it was kind of nice to end the year that way! I hope you have a great start to 2016!
