Hat, Sushi, & A New Running Playlist

We meet again, Monday.  It’s been a productive yet relaxing weekend, but now it’s back to the grind.  I already told you about my long run on Saturday and that my parents came over to help paint and with some other random stuff at my condo, but now I get to tell you about Sunday…

I woke up naturally (rather early because I didn’t pull the curtains fully shut because it has been dreary out anyways) and headed to Starbucks with my computer and a notebook to get some work done and make a to-do list for the day and for this coming week.  My hair was embarassingly dirty, so…

I had to got to wear my new hat :)  Probably one of my more awkward selfies though… I promptly came home and washed my hair, no worries.  After crossing a few items off my list, my mom arrived again to help with a few more things.  I took her car to go to Target because I needed some items for closet organization and I also got my grocery shopping done there.  The only downfall is the lack of a deli counter, but Oscar Meyer pre-packaged turkey is good enough for me.

We took a lunch break to go to RA Sushi and the madre was working so hard to paint my closest, she needed a drink.

And then we got back and I proceeded to fall asleep on the couch, while she kept working…oops.  It was a small closet and more of a 1 person job…

Mom left around 4, and the rest of my afternoon was more organizing, adjusting closet shelves, working on this little blog, preparing for the week, and a bunch of other little things.  And watching the #goldenglobes featuring 2 of my favorite people – Tom Hanks & Katy Perry.

It looks like I haven’t posted a playlist since my June 2015 Running Playlist.  I usually do a complete playlist overhaul every few months (there was a new iteration in November) and then add or take off tracks as necessary until I do another total overhaul.

Some of these have been my past few playlists (the Katy Perry songs, Shut Up & Dance), but some are brand new.  I’ve actually recently ‘discovered’ the Spotify Discover feature, which suggests music based on what I like to listen to.  So a few of these songs were discovered there.

You’ll also notice the 90s angry-music type songs from the musical styling of Papa Roach, Trapt, etc.  Last Resort came on in one of my Shred 415 classes and I was reminded how great these types of songs are for working out.  So I used another Spotify feature – the one where you can choose an artist then select related artists.

Having the right playlist is so clutch this time of year – the treadmill time of year.  I’ve gotten used to not usually bringing my iPod with me when I run outside, but on the treadmill I would literally die if I didn’t have it.  The wireless headphones also work wonders on the treadmill and have totally revolutionized my world.

  1. I’ve never been a playlist creator. I put my phone on shuffle and see what it comes up with when I listen to music during a workout. However, since Serial is back, lately that’s been my go-to on the treadmill. I find that podcasts require a lot of concentration (because if you stop listening for even a little bit, you miss part of the story) and are therefore PERFECT for treadmill running, because I have to focus on something other than how crushingly boring it is to run on a treadmill for 40 minutes haha.

    • I’ve tried podcasts and audiobooks, but haven’t had much luck on the treadmill with them. I did like them though when I ran around the indoor track at my old gym in Cincinnati! Not sure why, but running tons of laps around a boring indoor track was the perfect setting for me + podcasts haha

  2. Looks like a great playlist! I actually don’t listen to music while I run (unless Im on the treadmill) but I do like to update my playlist for strength training workouts!

    • That’s crazy!! I would die without music on the treadmill. The other day my wireless headphones died, so I had to hop off to get my regular ones from the locker room. For about .25 I was like “oh I could totally finish up 4 miles without headphone” and that changed quickly.
