I Won The Treadmill Lottery

As I write this, I’m waiting for the Powerball drawing, hoping my numbers are going to hit big.  Update to come by the end of this post.  Unless I win, then I need to keep it under wraps for a little bit :)

But this week, I felt like I won the lottery- the treadmill lottery.

A lot of days, I never know how I’ll feel while I’m running until I’m actually out there running.  On the treadmill, the probability that I’ll feel crappy/won’t make it past 5 miles is much greater.  I’m gonna say the odds that I feel amazing on the treadmill is about 1:30.  And fortunately, Tuesday night was one of those “I feel amazing on the treadmill” runs.

Earlier that day I was really not feeling going for my run.  But then my friend Emily from work was leaving to hit the gym right at 5, so I decided to quickly wrap up what I was doing and head down with her to just make myself get to it.  Even walking from the locker room to the treadmill I recall thinking that if I didn’t have Stu writing this plan for me, I probably would’ve just been like “mehhh it’s cold out and I just want to go home and eat dinner and wrap myself in blankets ASAP.”

I’m not sure what happened when I got on, but I felt great from the start.  The plan for the day was 5 miles + 400m at goal half marathon pace.  And the plan for Wednesday was 7 miles.

So shortly into the run, I decided I’d go for the 7 and move the shorter run to Wednesday.  But then I just kept going and going and going.  The total run ended up as:

treadmill1

I did the following pacing pattern for 2 songs each:

7.3, 7.5, 7.7, 7.9, 7.6, 7.8, 8.0

Then 1 song at each of the following:

8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3

All songs from my most recently crafted playlist.  Then I happily called it quits.

I know I’ve been slacking on the posting this week – so I’ll have a summary of last week + this current week sometime early next week.  I also have a few other posts in my pipeline (#businessjargon) that I’m excited about!

But since you’re probably dying to know, Monday was an easy 4 miles + 400m @ goal pace and then last night I did 5 miles + 400m @ goal pace.  Monday morning also involved a strength workout of a bunch of lunges and squats, including single-leg squats, so my legs are beat today.

And since you’re also dying to know, I did not win the jackpot :(

Did you buy a Powerball ticket?  More importantly, did you win?!?!

If you’re on the treadmill and feeling strong, do you take full advantage of it like I did?

2 Thoughts on “I Won The Treadmill Lottery

  1. I’m not sure if I can think of a single time where I’ve ever felt so great on a treadmill run that I decided to go farther than originally planned (though I’m not going to lie – I’m a little tempted to tonight. I need to do six miles on Saturday, and I know for sure I’m not going to get them done in the morning. I worry that the more the day goes on, the less likely I’ll be to do them, and I’m concerned that I’m going to scrap my long run entirely, so I’m thinking about maybe doing it on the ‘mill tonight…but only if I can find a long enough podcast, since Serial is now apparently doing an every-other-week thing >:( ). There have been a couple times when I’ve run outside, though, that I’ve rearranged my schedule to go longer because I felt great (or because the forecast for later in the week looked questionable!).

    • HAHA yeah it’s so rare! And you should definitely try to just get the run done ASAP – it’s supposed to be warmer Saturday then temps plummeting again :( I still haven’t started the new season of Serial…maybe I’ll make that my elliptical listening next week
